The one thing that you want to change in India

If I get a chance the first thing I would change in this nation would be its Education System. The education system of our ancient country is in a very miserable condition right now. We all know it. The Authorities, Scholars, Officials, Teaching staff, so-called Experts, all know and understand the fact that our education system is not fine. It must be ' fine-tuned ' immediately. It doesn’t focus enough on developing a person rather tests his memory power again and again and over again. It's clearly a Marks oriented system but not a Skills and Knowledge oriented one!

Many years ago, America and Finland used to compete every year for the title of " The Best education system " but Finland then did something that drastically changed. Thereafter no nation stood for competition with it. Finland has been on top ever since. So? How did they do that? Their top secret is, they don’t put on students the burden of homework. Only Schools for Education. Home for homely things. They have reduced time at school, no homework at all. They believe that students should have more time to be kids and take every joy of childhood. Learn Traditional things, enjoy surroundings, Natures, cultivations, Relations with all, be Youngsters, to enjoy their life. All the students there enjoy their education system there. They get a maximum of 20 to 30 minutes of work after school. At school, it is a maximum of 20 hours a week including lunch hours and break time. Contrary to our myth that more time studying is better. The top education system believes in, "Less time is more productive". They basically do better by going less to school. Our brains, especially kids’ brains, need rest. We need to relax every now and then. If you just put work, work & work, you just stop learning. They believe that school is about finding happiness, learning, and learning things that make you happy. Not studying to pass just a test. The students are taught everything with equal importance no matter what it is. May it be PE, arts, music, etc. All are equally important. It’s not like the Math teacher comes, “PE is a waste of time, let me take math today instead”. Also, one more great thing about schools there is, people have never looked for the best school in town. It’s a non-existent term there, all schools there are the same. Yes, all schools are the same there. No Quality competitions at all, nothing. It is illegal in Finland to set up a school and charge tuition so basically, there are no private schools there. Because Education is not Business there. So rich, poor all are alike and this builds a friendship between them which eliminates the discrimination between rich and non-rich.

Unlike us they enjoy going to school, they like studying., but we? We beg and wish that “Ohh god let this one Sem get online I’ll enjoy it a bit, next Sem you do anything I’ll study but this one Sem I can’t take it”. For us, the enjoyment is away from study. But for them, studying itself is enjoyment. What we are doing is we are preparing our students for the test. They prepare them for life. Here, If you fail, Authorities make money. Education has become a business here in India. All about tests and exams, everywhere money plays a prime role than teaching and learning. We teach to make money, that's why we only make money, not human resources. India has the best human resources that are possibly available, but we are certainly wasting it by putting all the animals in the same basket and asking everyone to perform alike. The existing education system doesn’t teach anything to become Leaders but, slaves like workers. Communication is a very key aspect of leadership or life for that matter is not a part of our curriculum, we teach language but not communication. Leadership, a very important aspect of life, is never taught to us. At the school level, a leader is chosen based on whom the teacher likes at a very small age. This is what is taught to us. Time management is a very important aspect of life. It is not a part of our education system. Moral science is an optional subject. So, no leaders, no administrators, no one has Morals at all. Then we sit and cry, I can’t manage time. Crime is increasing in society because this is what we are taught from a young age. Even if you pass 5th grade you will get a seat in 6th grade along with the person who didn’t pass, what is the value of that pass. This is how our children never learn to face failures and when they fail all they do is commit suicide.

It is not just the system that needs a change but our society. We are trained in such a way that if you pass you have a life, if not you are useless. That is why whenever a student fails, they lose hope in everything. They don’t realize the fact that the very failure regarding which you are mourning today might be the biggest turning point to a glorious future written in your name. We are never taught such a positive perspective of life. We never notice the fact that our country, being the most populated one, has one of the least winners of medals in the Olympics. China having a comparable human resource to ours is topping at Olympics, because in China studying isn’t the only way to lead your life. There are sports, there is music, there is art and many more but, what about us in India? Engineer or Doctor or a so-called ‘Nobody’. We see no further from a few primitive options to lead a life. The world is changing, it is opening up countless new options for us and we are not grasping them.

The world is developing, bringing us many new options. Once the British taught us how to play cricket, we were very ignorant about it but today, we very much rule the whole cricket world not just watching but, marketing, developing, and also performing and playing. We have similar countless fields which we Indians alone can rule if we just accept the offer and promote our young generation, these are also options open for a grand life. We need to stop being too protective of our children and let them learn from their mistakes, their failures. Let him become self-made, he will rule the universe. It’s time we change for good.
